Chevrolet Has Strong First Week in NASCAR® Races

Chevrolet had a strong first week of NASCAR® races at the beginning of March, leading the first race of the season, the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway. Driver Alex Bowman took the #1 spot, with three other Chevy drivers in the top 10.

It’s also notable that Chevy drivers led the race for a total of 127 laps out of 200. Bowman said this dominating performance is thanks in part to the changes made to the Camaro, which saw upgrades to its body this year, providing better aerodynamics.

Chevrolet introduced the new NASCAR® Cup Series Camaro last October, the ZL1 1LE, calling it “the fastest, most track-capable production Camaro ever.” The new design employed computation fluid dynamics, full-scale wind tunnel testing, and more.

Other changes to the Camaro include a new front bumper for better bump drafting. The new NASCAR® Camaro put out 550 horsepower, though the street version of the car comes with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 650 hp.

Third-place winner Kurt Busch cited that the Camaro had “a really good balance when it came to speed and long run speed,” starting out fast and staying fast, unlike competitors that were “bogged down early in a run.”

With a vehicle as capable as the Camaro, it’s no wonder the team performed so well at the Auto Club 400. Join all of us here at Village Motors of Conover in rooting the team on in upcoming NASCAR® races when the season resumes later this spring.
